What Is a Bath Filler with Overflow?

A bath filler is the tap or spout that fills your bathtub. An overflow bath filler routes the built-in overflow through the filler itself, so the same fitting handles both filling the bath and draining any water that rises above the overflow outlet. 

It arrives as a matched set: the spout or valves, the waste mechanism, and the overflow pipework that connects them. Buying the waste and overflow together means the finishes match and the seals are designed to work as one unit, which is why most people choose an overflow filler over sourcing a bare spout and a separate waste kit.

Freeflow, Deck-Mounted and Thermostatic: Which Type?

Do Bath Fillers Include the Waste and Overflow?

Wastes come in two common types: a clicker (push) waste that opens and closes with a press, and a sprung or easy-clean waste that unscrews for cleaning. Both are supplied ready to install, so there's no need to buy a separate bath waste kit unless you're replacing a worn one on an existing filler.

Water Pressure and Compatibility

Water pressure determines which bath filler will perform well in your home. 

A combi boiler typically delivers high pressure and is compatible with the full range. 

A gravity system, where water comes from a cold water tank in the attic feeding a hot water cylinder, generally runs at lower pressure and you should check the minimum water pressure rating on any filler before ordering.

Most fillers here carry a low minimum pressure rating of 0.2 bar, making them suitable for both low pressure and high pressure systems including gravity and unvented high pressure setups. If you’re unsure about your home's water system, a plumber can confirm your pressure before you buy. Fitting a filler with a high minimum rating on a low pressure system will result in poor performance regardless of finish or style.
