How a Boiling Water Tap Works

A boiling water tap draws from a small insulated tank fitted under the sink, heating and holding water at close to 100°C so it is ready the moment you need it. Instead of filling a kettle and waiting, you lift or turn the tap and near-boiling water comes straight out. Useful for hot drinks, blanching vegetables, or anything else that usually means standing next to a kettle. 3-in-1 vs 4-in-1 Taps

The core difference comes down to what the tap dispenses. A 3-in-1 tap covers boiling, hot and cold water from a single spout. A 4-in-1 tap adds filtered cold water as a fourth option, so the same tap handles drinking water without running unfiltered mains supply. The Enki range includes both: the 3-in-1 Etna models suit kitchens where a separate filter is already fitted, while the 4-in-1 models build filtration in as standard. If counter space is tight and you want to remove the kettle and the water filter jug in one go, the 4-in-1 is the logical choice.

Finish Options

All Enki boiling water taps are available in finishes that match the wider kitchen tap range. Chrome is the lowest-cost entry point and the most hard-wearing in daily use. Matt black suits darker or more modern kitchen schemes. Brushed brass and brushed copper add warmth without going full gold. Brushed nickel sits between chrome and brushed brass for a softer metallic tone. The stainless steel digital boiling system is its own category with a built-in display for precise temperature control.

Filtration and Running Costs

Every tap in the range works with an Enki carbon filter, sold separately. Options to suit different water supplies:

• Anti-scale cartridge reduces limescale build-up, worth prioritising if you are in a hard-water area
• Anti-bacterial cartridge addresses bacteria in the supply line
• Standard carbon filter cartridge improves taste and reduces odour in the filtered cold water output
• Complete filter systems include the housing and cartridge, the right starting point for a first install

After that, only the replacement cartridge needs changing, roughly every six months under normal use.

Running costs are lower than a traditional kettle over time. A kettle heats a full tank repeatedly whether you need one cup or six. A boiling water tap heats a small insulated volume and holds it, using energy more efficiently the more it is used throughout the day.

Installation and Safety

A boiling water tap needs an under-sink tank, a mains water connection and a dedicated 13-amp socket. Most households use a qualified plumber for installation, particularly where existing pipework needs adapting. A straightforward swap where pipework is already in place can be quicker, but it is not a standard DIY job. Once fitted, the safety features built into the Enki range include cool-touch insulated spouts and a two-stage action to dispense boiling water, so it cannot be triggered accidentally.
